Spec-D Practice Series

 

Our weekly drifting practices are held at Castrol Raceway, just outside of Edmonton, Alberta.  We offer a place for new and experienced drivers alike to put their skills to the test on our skid-pad! All that is required is a DOT helmet and a simple safety tech inspection. Ride-alongs for spectators are also welcomed with most drivers.

Admission/Gate Times

Drivers: $40

Spectators: $10

 

Gates open at 5 PM, tech shortly after to ensure drivers can get on track a soon as possible.

Practice goes until 10 PM or later on busy nights.

 

2017 Spec-D Pro-Am (Formula D Pro 2 Licensing) Series

 

Spec-D is the only Canadian Formula Drift licensing series, our top 3 finishers of the 2017 season receive a Pro 2 licence allowing them to compete in North America premier drift series: Formula Drift.

Expected drivers:

•     25-32 drivers are expected for the 2017 season competing for the Pro 2 licence

•     20 of our top drivers will be participating in demo /fundraiser events.

Spec-d Pro-Am generally follows a typical format that begins with an opening practice session, a qualifying round and a competition round.

Between rounds we have drivers meeting and track breaks in which we have some bike demos, DJ, and pit walks where fans can interact with drivers.

In 2017 we are using 4 judges who decide the winner of a 2 run “tandem” battle.

   -Single Day: $15 General Admission / $10 Kids (6-12 years) / $0 Under 6 years

   -Family-Pass Rates Available At Gate On Event Day

What is Drifting?

Drifting is the opposite of grip driving, which involves taking a corner without sliding. In drifting we purposely slide cars around a pre determined course where in competition its judged under factors of speed, angle and line.

 

Where can I Practice or watch drifting?

Weelky practices in the Edmonton area are held at Castrol Raceway almost every Thursday evening throughout the summer; its a safe and fun place to test your car control.

Drifting is NOT to be done on public streets!!

 

What car do i need to drift?

The best car to drift is a rear wheel drive (rwd) with a manual transmission; however even automatic cars can drift just takes practice. examples: Nissan 350z,370z, nissan silvia, rx7, rx8, nissan 180sx, 240sx, 300zx, mustangs, corvette, toyota gt86, …..

 

What do i need to bring to practice drifting?

A DOT  approved helmet, a car that is in safe operating order,(no leaks, battery tied down) , tires with decent tread left and a couple friend to have a great time with, full rules and tech can be found here:  www.spec-d.ca/p/practice.html?m=1

 

How much does it cost?

To drive all night is $40.00, to watch is $10.00.

 

Can spectators go for ride alongs?

Yes ride alongs are allowed, must have a DOT helmet and select drivers.
