2017 NHRA Junior Drag program

Welcome young racing families, The switch to NHRA is exciting news for everyone, especially the Junior Drag Racers. Although the NHRA as a drag racing sanctioning body offers programming for on-track Junior Dragster training for children age 5 and competitive allowance for children age 6, we at Castrol Raceway have decided to forego the Young Racer opportunity for the 2017 race season and beyond. We will proudly continue to endorse our Junior Drag Racing program and the Nitro Ratz Junior Dragster Assc. for children 7 years and older. We apologize for any disappointment this may cause, and we look forward to developing a Young Racer (Ages 5 & 6) “Off-Track” Junior Dragster mentorship program for those looking to get involved with motorsports at an early age.

As per the 2017 NHRA Rule book; Page 30 - Please note

JR. DRAGSTER RULES AND REGULATIONS

The NHRA Summit Racing Jr. Drag Racing League is a multifaceted program designed to afford youth as young as 5 years old the opportunity to drive in the League and those 6 and older the opportunity to race against their peers in near replicas of the models that the Pros drive. NHRA Jr. drag racing is restricted to competition in half-scale dragsters over a maximum distance of an eighth-mile. Competition is designed to be conducted on an e.t. dial-your- own format or a preset index on a heads-up breakout basis. Actual class or age-group breaks may vary from track to track. Contact your local track to see if it participates in the program and if so, for information on class structure. Each track, in its discretion, may set its own age requirements for participation (for example, a track may allow only those 8 and older to participate).

CASTROL RACEWAY JOINS NHRA MEMBER TRACK NETWORK

GLENDORA, Calif. (Nov. 10, 2016) Castrol Raceway, in Edmonton, Alberta, has joined the NHRA Member Track Network within the Northwest Division, NHRA's Division 6, which features tracks from Alberta, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Saskatchewan, and Washington.

The multipurpose facility features a three-eighths mile clay oval opened in 1991, in 1992 the track opened the quarter-mile dragstrip, and in 2013 a 15-turn road course was added to the site.

The dragstrip runs a wide ranging schedule of events including weekly points racing, Jr. Drag racing programs, motorcycle racing and specialty events from the end of April through October.

"We are very excited to have Edmonton back within the NHRA family," said Matt Levonas, NHRA Division 6 director. "Edmonton has a great group of racers and a long history in the sport as being a hot bed of drag racing."

"We had some good meetings with the NHRA, including Graham Light," said Rob Reeves, Castrol Raceway President.  "We got a lot of feedback from the racers in this area about the NHRA being a better fit. Overall we're pretty excited about where this will eventually lead us. We will be showcasing the NHRA sportsman classes while continuing to feature professional classes including Nostalgia Funny Cars and Pro Mods."

As an NHRA-sanctioned track, the facility will be eligible to offer racers a variety of NHRA racing opportunities, including the NHRA Summit Racing Series, the NHRA Summit Racing Jr. Drag Racing League, NHRA Jr. Street and the NHRA Drags: Street Legal Style presented by AAA.  Additionally, the track has the opportunity to host NHRA's specialty events including the National DRAGSTER Challenge, NHRA Summit King of the Track, and NHRA Summit Racing Jr. Drag Racing League Challenge, where racers compete for the coveted Wally trophy.

Headquartered in Glendora, Calif., NHRA is the primary sanctioning body for the sport of drag racing in the United States. NHRA presents 24 national events featuring the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series. NHRA provides competition opportunities for drivers of all levels in the NHRA Summit Racing Series and the NHRA Drags: Street Legal Style presented by AAA. NHRA also offers NHRA Jr. Street program for teens and the Summit Racing Jr. Drag Racing League for youth ages 5 to 17. In addition, NHRA owns and operates five racing facilities: Atlanta Dragway in Georgia; Gainesville Raceway in Florida; National Trail Raceway in Ohio; Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis; and Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in Southern California.
